Matador CD release show tomorrow!

Friday, April 9th, 2010

And I quote, "We're sorry we're so attractive and love stools so much!"

Very exciting news to report: Matthew and Dorota ie MATADOR are releasing their first record! To celebrate, there will be a big ole shabang at The Church house with performances from Beat Beat Whisper, Pale Robin, and Casey Guitar Band. Oh, and of course the birthday babies. Yum! Come out and support cute people making great music!

For those of you not in Santa Cruz, Matador is going to be taking off on a tour very soon, so if you’re in Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, ETC. you should go see them.

This Is Not an OhMyGod

Friday, November 20th, 2009

The “OhMyGod” in this title translates to “OhMyGod” there is so much to do this Saturday. Like, really. If you were feeling like you might have a shortage of fun things to do this weekend, consider your life (read: weekend) changed.

Yes yes yes, Like This!

Number ONE: The famoussss Annual KZSC Ultimate Music Sale is going on from 10-3pm and it is going to be nuts. There will be dozens of different vendors here to sell you wonderful musics, we will be there to sell you TWENTY FIVE CENT CDs (not to mention the bizarre LPs lurking around) and all of it’s to help benefit this wonderful little non-profit radio station. What’s not to love? Come early for all the bests, bring your car up and take advantage of the free parking, and get digging. We’ll help you to find a bargain and to help us. Yum!

The event begins at 10am and runs through to 3pm. It takes place at the Crown/Merrill Cultural Center at UCSC. For more info please email cdsale@kzsc.org

And THEN, keep your music loving pants on because Santa Cruz’s very own This Is Not a Record Label (really, it’s not) is throwing This is Not a Mikrofest II. What’s that mean? It means amazing show after amazing show after amazing show. The fun begins immediately after the music sale and continues until the wee hours of the night. The full line-up is listed after the jump. While normally I’d point you in the direction of all my faves, I think “my faves” is kind of useless in this situation. Really, all these shows will be worth it. However, I will say that I have a huge personal crush on the anti-folk sweetness of Polka Dot Dot Dot (the beloved Jordan O’ Jordan is a member). And that Matador will never cease to be a KZSC favorite.

Matthewwwww of Matador!

Dear Friends,

I’m very excited to announce that our good friends Matador will be  playing another show, this Wednesday (tomorrow!) at the Subrosa cafe downtown (next to the Bike Church). You may have heard them live on Cabinet of Curiosities or Condition 11:11 or more recently on Up the Folk. They’re one of my favorite local bands and I’m very excited that they’re reunited for this show. They spent the past few months being apart from eachother, and it’s been hard on us all. A basic description of their sound? Beautiful. Violin, geetar, boy/girl vocals and some Polish shouting for good measure. You can check out some of their stuff at their myspace (and you should). This is bound to be a great show, and at $5 in the middle of the week, you can’t go wrong.
