The “OhMyGod” in this title translates to “OhMyGod” there is so much to do this Saturday. Like, really. If you were feeling like you might have a shortage of fun things to do this weekend, consider your life (read: weekend) changed.

Yes yes yes, Like This!
Number ONE: The famoussss Annual KZSC Ultimate Music Sale is going on from 10-3pm and it is going to be nuts. There will be dozens of different vendors here to sell you wonderful musics, we will be there to sell you TWENTY FIVE CENT CDs (not to mention the bizarre LPs lurking around) and all of it’s to help benefit this wonderful little non-profit radio station. What’s not to love? Come early for all the bests, bring your car up and take advantage of the free parking, and get digging. We’ll help you to find a bargain and to help us. Yum!
The event begins at 10am and runs through to 3pm. It takes place at the Crown/Merrill Cultural Center at UCSC. For more info please email cdsale@kzsc.org

And THEN, keep your music loving pants on because Santa Cruz’s very own This Is Not a Record Label (really, it’s not) is throwing This is Not a Mikrofest II. What’s that mean? It means amazing show after amazing show after amazing show. The fun begins immediately after the music sale and continues until the wee hours of the night. The full line-up is listed after the jump. While normally I’d point you in the direction of all my faves, I think “my faves” is kind of useless in this situation. Really, all these shows will be worth it. However, I will say that I have a huge personal crush on the anti-folk sweetness of Polka Dot Dot Dot (the beloved Jordan O’ Jordan is a member). And that Matador will never cease to be a KZSC favorite.

Matthewwwww of Matador!

Picture bodies packed into a cozy garage, possibly not fully sound-proofed walls, narrow, people hanging from the rafters like the apes we are, moshing into the band, and oh so much beautiful noise. Church last night.
Third St in Santa Cruz near the Boardwalk was crammed with bodies Saturday night, wall to wall, two-stages; one garage reserved for the loud. Enter Vault Dweller hailing from Salem, Oregon trying to find their box of beer before they sound check. Then, after a lengthy tune up, they start to jam. Then there’s me, completely floored by the soul of the music. It was a groovy, doom, crust, heavy metal treat. Delicious. The bass (Big Derrick) was phenomenal, Nate hit the guitar with feeling and Brandon, the drummer on vocals was tearing through the night with piercing cries of fury. Seriously, it was great. And such an amazing turn out with all of us completely prepared to rock. The set was painfully brief so all the bands playing could fit in before the “wee hour” in Santa Cruz of 10pm when people would most assuredly complain. Still, it was enough time for Vault Dweller to conquer.

On the plate yesterday: more bagels, EXTREME pizza on Bedford in Brooklyn, The Knitting Factory and college music awards!
Yesterday CMJ gave away a slewww of prizes and awards at their annual College Music Awards. While KZSC is only winning at home (and with you) right now, our neighbors KSSU Sacramento took home a mountain of awards, including Station of the Year! Say congrats to them and give them a listen to see what all the hooplah is about.
