Who Are We?

KZSC is the student-run, noncommercial, educational, community radio station on the campus of the University of California Santa Cruz.  At our core, we are curators, journalists, and advocates of inclusivity and the collaborative arts.  We broadcast at 20,000 watts to over 3.2 million people in Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey Counties.  

We at KZSC share the goal of uplifting alternative and underrepresented voices in the media. We provide opportunities for local artists to share their music. We air over 17,000 Public Service Announcements annually.  This is the time of year where we ask you to help us maintain that support of our community.

As well as serving the public, KZSC serves the educational and social goals of UCSC students.  Our station is a welcoming space for all UCSC students and we bring that spirit with us at the numerous events where our DJ's spin and mix! Through our radio broadcast class, staff experience, and governing board positions we have developed a truly unique educational and proffessionalizing experience that provides students a space to grow.

We wouldn't have been able to broadcast for 55 years without the support of our listeners!  Your donation goes a long way towards training the next generation of DJ's so that we can keep going 55 more years. 2024 is a special year for us because 50 years ago (in 1974) we received our FCC license as KZSC 88.1!
