As always, our weekly adds and charts from the world of jazz here at KZSC. Some new artists are infiltrating what has otherwise been a summer dominated by a few great artists. This week we have introduced Afro Bop Alliance, a compilation of upbeat Brazilian tunes, to the airwaves alongside Moon Hooch, a new New York experimental jazz group. And by experimental, I mean straight up placing traffic cones in their horns. All the same, we are lucky to have a fair mixture of jazz legends of new and old. New Blue Note artists include pianist and composer Jason Moran (All Rise); and drummer Otis Brown III (The Thought of You). Brown has worked alongside acclaimed artists like Esperanza Spalding and Terence Blancahard. Chick Corea’s latest album Triology is nothing short of a trinity of modern jazz masters…. Bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade accompany Corea on this live album, which contains three albums steeped in hard driving melodic lines.
