This Thursday January 28th @ 9pm The Donkeys and Jackie Zealous will be playing at The Crepe Place on Soquel Avenue (just a block from the Rio Theater).

Jackie Zealous is a local Santa Cruz surf/garage trio, who have made impressionable performances all around Santa Cruz’s finest music venues, including an on-air appearance on KZSC’s own Local Brew (a local music/ live-performance show on Saturdays from 9am-noon).

Are you wondering what kind of a band name Jackie Zealous is? Just remember this rhyme:

Jackie Zealous is the name of a man who lives in a van…

Jackie’s name was the inspiration behind the name of the band.

Jackie met the band outside of where they practice; this ended up serving the band well, with Jackie’s unsought advice about their sound and management. The band has since developed a turbulent sound similar to  Ty Segall and The Stooges but also with a tranquil side to them that blends into a jangly amiable stage presence. Jackie Zealous fuses very nicely with The Donkeys.

The Donkeys are a quartet from San Diego with a “rod rock” feel, backed up with  Santo and Johnny-like guitar leads. The Donkeys have finished their tour of over 150 shows in 2014 and have been working on their new album “Midnight Palms” which is to be released on February 12th on Easy Sound. They have been playing together since high school and they are known for having a very tight and cohesive stage presence.

Tune into KZSC 88.1 FM this week for a chance to win a pair of tickets to this show!
