For this week’s In Session feature, we’re traveling to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, to acknowledge the terrific bass work of Mr. David Hood. Hood was a member of Rick Hall’s “Swampers”, a group of studio musicians in the Muscle Shoals area in the late 1960’s-1970’s. The Swampers were able to seamlessly merge twang and funk in their signature Southern sound known as “Swamp Rock.”
Hood, along with the other Swampers, recorded on hits by the likes of Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, Wilson Pickett, Bob Segar, Willie Nelson, Bobby Womack, and so many more. Some of your favorite records are bound to have Hood and the rest of the Muscle Shoals rhythm section featured. Check below for a playlist of some of the hits and rarities, and make sure to come back every Monday for a new In Sesssion feature here on the KZSC blog!
