The winter weather is settling in, and as the nights begin to get longer and the days become shorter, a lot of people experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). The lack of sunlight can take a toll on the mind and the body, causing symptoms of depression. There are many ways to try to treat these symptoms; including counseling, altering daily routines, and even light therapy. These are all great resources! However, my favorite treatment, when I’m feeling down in the winter blues, is music!

It’s easy to seep too far into the sadness with somber tunes, or to try to combat it with happier music that invalidates your mood, but the key is to own it and accept it as something to lift up from, rather than treating it like something you have to push away. Listening to comforting music can be soothing and wrap you up like a warm blanket. Take care of yourself!

Below is a playlist crafted with all these factors in mind. Listen and allow yourself the tranquility. Be blue. Get into the music. Survive the winter!
