Berlin’s IT girl finally made her way to the States for her grand US tour with DBBD. Miss Bashful was born in Mexico City and is proud of her Mexican and German roots. Living in Berlin, Mexico City, and Texas you know that she is proud of where she is from going back and forth from the 3 places she resides in. When Project SF announced she would be on tour I instantly warned my friends and bought tickets. Miss Bashful is someone I have been wanting to see since the summer in Los Angeles when I first discovered her. Her current music genre is slutty techno. As someone who found Miss Bashful through past creative partner MCR-T, I knew Miss Bashful was the one when I heard her track DJ on ur face. She makes me feel hot and that is her ultimate goal through her music. She makes sure that we feel confident through her provocative and outlandish lyrics. This is Miss Bashful’s true calling. With Miss Bashful’s sexy and alluring persona and DBBD’s insane beats, how could one not love the two hottest up-and-coming Berlin musicians?

Discussion on Club Culture

We got to the venue around 11 and hit the dance floor. We met up with some friends from the UCSC transfer community. As someone who does not like videos playing on the club screen, it was my only con about the DJ sets before Miss Bashful. This looped Jennifer’s Body clip was kind of not my favorite. I honestly think we are so tied to our phones and the endless scrolling.  This is not just something that happened during the openers DJ set, but club culture as a whole has implemented the looping of music videos or movie snippets at club events. Maybe club culture is evolving and I know nothing about club culture from the 2010s.

On another note, Beverly Chills played Yellow Claw’s “Crush”. Ever since I watched Babygirl I thought I would have to wait until the summer for my Los Angeles “Crush” rave moment. Everyone was instantly connected and we all had our Babygirl rave scene at 1015 Folsom. This moment reminded me of the online discourse about club culture/ going out and how it is dying. I do not think club culture is necessarily dying; I do think it is changing because of phone usage at the club or functions.

People are gaining acceptance and belonging through online subcultures and communities, so there is no need to go out. Maybe people do not feel the need to go out because at least they have community online without leaving their homes. One thing I want to see more within club culture is more clubs implementing no phone usage and no talking on the dance floor. Just pure dancing. This idea/ rule does promote exclusivity, but I honestly think it will make going out more fun and memorable.

Miss Bashful

During the second DJ set, I managed to get to the 2nd floor because Miss Bashful was going to make the first floor packed. I was gone and didn’t realize that DBBD had already made his way on stage and then followed Miss Bashful. Her stage presence was so fun and she was prancing around the stage hyping up the crowd. I was in a state of shock during the whole set putting my hands on my mouth. She mostly performed songs off of XOXOFM and other music that she has made with DBBD including DJ on ur face. Dancing with strangers was quite fun when you are not fully there and know that most people will forget the moments that happened in 1015 Folsom. I don’t think I will. “Boyfriendz” came on and my friends said that song was all me. Which is 100% not true! I was anticipating hearing “Groupiez” live and it was the only video I had to take. You don’t want to know why it’s one of my personal favorites. Lyrically in that song, she makes fun of people who mooch on musicians’ success such as wanting to be with them because of their fame and hardly for the work they do through the music. She ended her set with “Ride that Beat” which samples the iconic “Meet her at the Love Parade”. Currently for me “Sad Slut” is in the rotation.

There is this misconception that girls and boys who are sluts are not really in touch with their feelings. That is because people who engage in casual sex and actual fun are only seen as nymphos and are oversexualized. All I have to say about this is that SL*TS GET SAD TOO! Regardless of the sexual persona Miss Bashful puts out, she is a very emotional person according to podcasts and interviews. Miss Bashful’s discography embodies sexual confidence and I cannot wait to hear the sadder, more emotional music she plans to put out.
