Friday, March 1st is the Day of The Hawaiian Guitars. Both Makana and Maunalua honor the traditional Hawaiian style and make it their own, performing at two locations. Bobby Moderow, Kahi Kaonohi and Richard Gideon are in the band Maunalua. Their rich harmonies and glorious guitars will take you to Hawaii on a musical flight non- stop…well, at least until 9 pm! Maunalua take the stage starting at 6 pm at Pono, 120 Union Street in downtown Santa Cruz.
The Carriage House Theatre will be the place for Hawaiian guitar moving into the future as Makana performs his blazingly brilliant and original style of Hawaiian slack key guitar at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga also on Friday, March 1st at 8 pm. Montalvo also offers a pre-show cocktail party in the historic Villa.
