Trio Balkan Strings will be appearing at a house concert in downtown Santa Cruz at 7:30pm on Thursday, May 25th, 2017. They’re a virtuosic guitar trio from Belgrade, Serbia who perform a unique fusion of Balkan music, crossing various genres with elements of swing, jazz and world music. Zoran Starcevic and his two sons, Nikola and Zeljko play original compositions with great energy, with music based in Serbian, Gypsy, Macedonian, Romanian, Moldavian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Mediterranean, Greek and Asian roots. All members of the band have been classically trained, but exude an affection for rock, blues, pop and jazz, particularly the hot jazz of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli. To experience their dynamic music in an intimate, up close, acoustic setting, contact [email protected] for reservations and directions. KZSC features World Music on “Heat Wave” Mondays, 9-11am, “Unfiltered Camels” Mondays 4-6pm, and “From the Heart” Thursdays, 4-6pm.
