Dreamy Melancholy: A Night with Cigarettes After Sex

Attending a Cigarettes After Sex concert feels less like a show and more like stepping into a movie. Their recent performance was no exception, they demonstrated exceptional showmanship, knowing exactly when and how to use the fog machine which created the perfect ambiance for some of their more melo songs. More then that, I was repeatedly in awe at how appreciative they were of their audience, stopping after almost every song to hand out picks, set lists, and whatever else it was they had to offer.

Frontman Greg Gonzalez’s ethereal vocals floated effortlessly through the venue, each song creating an intimate connection with the audience. Tracks like “Apocalypse” and “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” felt even better live as the ambiance of the lighting and smoke seemed to paint the perfect picture. But the night’s standout moment came when the band debuted a brand-new song for the first time. It was an unexpected gift for the crowd, capturing their signature sound while offering a glimpse into their evolving artistry.

The minimalist stage setup allowed the music to take center stage, amplifying the emotional depth of their performance. Despite the subdued energy, the band’s precision was remarkable, layering their signature ambient soundscapes with subtle nuances that kept the audience spellbound.

It wasn’t a night for wild dancing or shouting—it was a night for reflection, for swaying, and for losing oneself in the beauty of melancholy. If you’re looking for an evening of quiet intensity and dreamy soundtracks, Cigarettes After Sex delivers it flawlessly.
