With the release of Molly Tuttle’s lastest album on August 15, 2025, she begins an exciting new musical journey. The genre of the songs in “So Long Little Miss Sunshine” is labeled as Singer-Songwriter, and when listening to the whole thing, I got a lot of country vibes from it. Molly Tuttle’s newest album boasts an impressive array of catchy songs that will keep your head bopping and your shoulders moving.
The first song, “Everything Burns”, was an explosive start for the album with its fast-paced instrumentals that gave off vibes from an old western movie. I could easily imagine someone being on the run with this song playing in the background. But that’s not to say that every track has this fast-paced, upbeat element, as there are songs such as “Summer of Love” and “Oasis” that are quieter, relaxed, and overall pleasant to the ears. One of my favorites was “That’s Gonna Leave a Mark”, her most popular song on the album; to me, it has the perfect balance between an upbeat, toe-tapping rhythm and a soulful melody.
Molly Tuttle spent the past five years writing this album, and although it was a big departure from her earlier songs, her website bio states, “It’s like, ‘You know what? I’m not going to care what people think. I’m going to do what I want.'” This unapolegetic statement shines through her album, especially in the song “I Love It”, which emphasizes the leaving of her previous lover at the time. There are also songs about taking road trips or about reflecting on one’s life. It’s an album that encompasses many themes of hardship, learning to accept the past, and not giving in to the pressure of other people’s expectations.
At the beginning of this year, Molly played a song with the legendary Ringo Starr on his new country album, “Look Up”. She was inspired by Ringo’s endless passion for music, and she continues to forge her own path of experimental music. Molly Tuttle’s ability to uphold herself, push forward, and to embrace whatever musical challenge lies ahead of her is one of the reasons why she won two grammy awards for the albums, “Crooked Tree” (2022) and “City of Gold” (2023).
Her album, “So Long Little Miss Shine” kickstarted her current tour (Molly Tuttle: The Highway Knows Tour) where she is playing at most of the major cities in the U.S. I look forward to hearing her live on December 13, 2025 at The Filmore in San Francisco! If you’re looking for an album with heart, soul, and catchy melodies, give this one a listen the next you time your friend puts you in charge of the aux cord.
