On Monday, November 18th, I had the pleasure of seeing AJJ in concert at San Francisco’s The Chapel. The venue certainly lived up to it’s name, as this show was an experience that could be described as religious. I have been a fan of AJJ for a long time, hearing a song of theirs for the first time back in the eighth grade. Seeing them in concert has been a dream of mine since that first song, and boy was it worth the wait.
AJJ’s frontman, Sean Bonnette, accompanied by bassist Ben Gallaty, were the only two on the stage, but their voices had no problem hushing the whole venue at the beginning of the set. They played a combination of new music from their 2024 album “Disposable Everything Else” and classics that have gained a cult following since the band’s debut in 2004. This included the live performance exclusive mashup of “Brave as a Noun” and “Survival Song”, as well as my personal favorite “Big Bird” ending their set. The ambiance and closeness of the Chapel certainly added to the concert experience, and I wish my 8th-grade self could’ve been there to see it!
