Wiki Wiki Wednesday honors the birthdate of the last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawai'i this Wednesday between 6 and 9 am. David La'amea Kalakaua was born November 16th, 1836 and known as 'The Merrie Monarch' for his enthusiastic revival of Hawaiian music, dance and sport. Fluent in English and Hawaiian, the young David Kalakaua studied law in his younger years, and led the group the Young Hawaiians, whose motto was "Hawaii for the Hawaiians." We will have many musical tributes to the king, along with a very special guest co-host, Ku Imua Kalakaua!

On Wiki Wiki Wednesday, a musical tribute to the music and songs of Hawai'i and the Pacific Islands, we celebrate the birth of Queen Lili'uokalani. Lili'uokalani ascended to the throne January 29th, 1891, after the death of her brother, King David Kalakaua, known as the Merrie Monarch, for his revival of the hula, surfing and other Hawaiian arts. Queen Lili'uokalani was an accomplished author, composer and musician. She composed "Aloha 'Oe," or "Farewell to Thee," a popular lover's goodbye, which later became imbued with mourning for the loss of her country after the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom. We keep the Queen and Hawaiian Kingdom in heart, in part through the music.

Ceremony: an L-shaped band led by an L-shaped man. A dynamic so powerful that each member has their own shining moment on stage from the band's rambunctious lead singer, Ross Farrar, to the band's bassist, Andy Nelson, who seems to…
It’s been a little over a week since Shaky Knees has come to an end so it’s time to look back at all the great bands that played in the humble city of Hotlanta. I flew across country to check…
The last place I’d ever expect to find myself on a miscellaneous Tuesday night is on stage during Warren G’s 21+ show watching him drop regulate, a 90s gem that’s aged like wine. The life of a KZSC DJ can…
An EP (extended play) sits in the realm between a single and an album; anything from 2 to 6 songs qualifies. Matthew Azrieli's "Chloe" is at the outer limit. Six indie folk rock love songs in a row, so it…
The notion that Monday’s are destined to terminally suck, no matter what you do, can be quickly unraveled by a mad, impulsive dash up the Highway in search of adventure and rad tunes. Luckily for me, a surprise stop by…
Ceremony, the very well celebrated punk band of Northern California (Rohnert Park to be specific) has put out their fifth studio album “The L-Shaped Man” on Matador Records. I must say, I was really impressed by this album especially in relation to how much of a departure “The L-Shaped Man” seems from their previous album “Zoo”.
