UCSC will be celebrating its 50th anniversary soon and KZSC will be there to provide the soundtrack. From 12 to 2 PM on Thursday, January 15th, KZSC will be spinning the tunes of 1965--live from UCSC's Quarry Plaza!
Concert review: Lil B at the Catalyst Atrium
To further put off studying for finals last friday, I attended one of Bay Area rapper Lil B ‘The BasedGod’’s #veryrare concerts at The Catalyst. Well known in the Bay for his work in rap group The Pack (who opened for him), Lil B has reached a distinguished status in the rap game through his extensive online social media presence as well as his prolific free mixtape collection available on the web. Best known for his self invented musical subgenre ‘based’ music, Lil B continues to expand and innovate within the hiphop genre with his stream of consciousness lyrics and eccentric selection of beats.
KZSC’s Muzikal Jewz presents… Hanukah Rocks!
A classic record from the early 80s by Gefilte Joe and the Fish, who were fronted by Rhino Records' real-life co-founder Richard Foos (he also co-founded Shout! Factory). The group recorded as the Yiddish People during the disco craze, when they bastardized the Village People's "Macho Man" with their novelty hit "Matzo Man."

September. The sunny season is winding down, and fall is approaching. Many proud gardeners and groundskeepers find themselves bidding farewell to blooming flowers, and preparing for seasonal change. We here at KZSC are also bracing for change. Come October, we will be saying "farewell" to the amazing programmer Rose Lobel. Rose deejays "What's New", which airs Thursdays at noon. Her program showcases the recently released music of up-and-coming artists from a multitude of genres. An earful of Rose's "What's New" proves that great music is alive, kicking, and here to stay.
